There is a dispute going on over the indus water between India and
Pakistan. According to the latest reports, it has been known that US has
shown willingness to resolve the indus water issue between both the
countries, according to latest news India. The current disputes has
taken a worse shape because Islamabad does not want India to initiate
the construction of Kishanganga and Ratle hydroelectric power plant.
Pakistan has objected because they believe that construction of these
projects would violate the laws of Indus water treaty. It is a bond
signed between both the countries and is brokered by world bank.
Recently,
US has intervened into the matter stating they have an amicable
solution to the problem. It has been known that US secretary state John
Kerry called Pakistan finance minister Ishaq Dar told that they wanted
an amicable solution to the problem. Following the conversation, Dar
told the media that they appreciate the concern of the US but stated it
is the responsibility of World Bank to ensure India honour the IWT. US
is intervening to solve the matter and suggest both the countries to
bilaterally solve their differences.
The Indus Water Treaty is a
water agreement signed between both the countries about the
distribution of Indus water. The agreement was signed between both the
countries in 1960 and ia brokered by World Bank. The current dispute is
about the construction of hydroelectric plants, on which Pakistan
claimed the violation of Indus Water Treaty agreement. The Indian
officials said that they want bilateral solutions. But change in
agreement policies is not acceptable to Pakistan and they are not ready
to accept the changes in the agreement.
